Blogs and wikis have gotten people used to user generated content management systems according to an article on CNET News.com. Unlike old content management systems, the Web 2.0 style applications have made it easier for people to use. This will make a big impact on corporations adopting Web 2.0 into their businesses.
These tools won’t completely replace desktop applications, but many Web 2.0 applications are useful and make it much easier than its desktop predecessors. Since they are based on the web the applications can be accessed anywhere and they can have a central storage unit. The same applies for intranet-like applications only available internally.
For right now I see Web 2.0 making a bigger impact on the consumer market and most things in business tend to be slow adoption. It’s much more of a risk for a business to make a jump than an individual. The costs for businesses are much higher compared to probably no cost at all for a consumer. At some point though I see small parts changing little by little.
