PC World had an article last week about the number on finance websites. The most popular is Yahoo by far and MSN at a distant second. Google just recently launched its finance site and ranks 42nd on a list tabulated by Hitwise.
Google has gotten into this market late in the game so it will have to use its popularity and marketing to push the product to its customers. Google is moving away from search and looking toward other products for its customers.
CNN Money came in third followed by Marketwatch and the Internal Revenue Service.
I don’t really see Google finance as Google’s bread and butter, but its good that they have a competing product. They need it in order to push that they offer their users much more than just search. I think they are doing a great job at doing this. Google Finance is too new to make any judgments. I’m sure in a year or two we will be able to create more accurate conclusions. Until that time, I?m sure all of these sites will fine tune their product into something better than we have today.
