I’ve read quite a few articles around the web about rumors that Google will release its own web browser. CNET News.com has an article downplaying the idea. Google says they will only release a web browser if they felt there was real benefit in doing so.

As of right now I agree with Google’s standpoint on the situation. There really isn’t a need for another browser solution on the market. People are already given quite a few choices, some good and some bad. I think as time evolves these browsers will continue to improve.

On the other hand, that never really stopped Google before. People always had search engine options then came Google. There were plenty of web based email solutions and then came GMail. Maps, finance, and you get the idea.

Google has always seemed to be a company to take a quality concept and make it better. That’s what I see with Web 2.0 is that it will improve the quality and usability of applications on the web. So as of right now my guess is the same as anyone else. None of us will really know unless they actually do release such a product and maybe they never will.
