The Mozilla Corp. developers have decided to pull a feature called “Places” from its upcoming Firefox 2.0 release. “Places” uses a SQLite database engine to store bookmarks and browsing history and allows users to easily search within those results.
They have decided to pull it because it is not yet up to standards. They would rather get that feature done correctly than rush it to the market. That’s a big issue with development these days. Some people would rather get something out there just to get something out there instead of doing things right from the beginning and releasing when the developer is confident in the product. It’s an argument between development teams and marketing.
Firefox 2.0 Alpha 1 has been released for download and Alpha 2 should be available early this month. I think scaling back features is a better decision than releasing something that’s not ready for market. What do you think? Is this a good move for Mozilla?
