Google has released its own internet payment system called Google Checkout. It should compete head to head with PayPal and allow you to keep multiple credit cards in your Google account as well as a single place to track your orders.
The system is targeted at advertisers and no consumers, but the consumers will be the ones using the system more actively and putting more personal information into the system.
Consumers will be able to use the system with Google Base and Google store and pay for services like Google Adwords, Google Video and Google Earth.
I think this will be an interesting program if a lot of people jump on the idea, both advertisers and consumers. It seems like they could do a pretty good job in managing the idea and keeping people’s information confidential. The success of the service will depends on it.
