Apple Matters had an article about Google and is competitors and its forthcoming competitors. Google is the leading search engine by far, but that never means that another engine can’t come out and out perform the engine. As stated in the article, Google isn’t perfect and it will never be perfect. In fact, no service for that matter will ever be perfect.

There is to great of an audience to please everyone, but the service can attempt to please the majority. Of course this only applies to the mainstream products. Some products look to grab a small niche and be the best at that niche. In any case, the in the scope of your audience you will still have to please the majority in order for your service to beat out your competitors.

Since the site is an Apple related site it goes on to say that Apple could integrate into Spotlight greater search capabilities for the web. While I see this as a great feature, they would need a data house similar to Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc. Now that is something Apple may do, but I see that is something unlikely. It would be a huge risk for the company with little benefit especially if the service is only available to Mac users. So as the author says further down the article Apple probably won?t go down that line.

Now that doesn’t mean someone else can’t or won’t. There is always the opportunity to make existing products better. Google itself does a great job of doing that. It will only take someone to come up with an effective and creative idea that sparks change in people to make a search engine better than Google.
