I like living my life well organized and to a schedule.  I feel like I’m more productive in whatever tasks I try to accomplish in a day.  As I’ve written before when I get into a routine things seem to happen much more smoothly than if I try to do something without a plan.  I always feel like I’ve wasted time if I haven’t used my time productively.  I guess I’m not a real believer in “free time” since I’m always making an attempt to always be doing something.  When it comes to planning trips, this is no different.

Sure a trip can cause a break in my regular routine, but I do like to travel.  It doesn’t matter if I travel a short distance or somewhere far away, I just like getting out and doing things that aren’t too close to home.  It gives me an opportunity to have a change of pace once in a while, which I think is a good thing.

When I travel I like to be prepared.  I want to know if I’m going to be flying or driving or maybe even taking some other form of transportation.  If I’m flying I like to be at the airport in plenty of time so I schedule that into my day.  There have been too many close calls in the past and I’m less stressed out if I show up early rather than at the last minute.  I usually figure out where I’m going to stay beforehand.  There are times when I say I’ll just figure it out when I get there, but often times it costs a lot more than booking ahead.  This is expected of course.

At times I like taking long vacations, but most of the time I like taking small trips that only take a couple days or maybe a few days that span across a weekend.  I think if I’m only there for a short period of time I’m there I enjoy myself and do what I want to do there and then take off.  It’s right to the point and the experience happens right then and I have to do it right now or I won’t have time to do it.  On longer trips sometimes I’ll just say I’ll do it later in the trip and often times it just doesn’t end up happening.  Also on shorter trips there isn’t enough time to do everything so the most important things get done and that leaves a lasting impression.

I’m getting a break between projects in the next week or so so I’m going to head down Highway 1 and probably get all the way down to San Diego.  I took the drive last year and it was great.  Sure it’s a long drive, but I think it’s worth it.  I’ll have pictures to post, if I take any.
