I went to Senro Japanese Bar and Grill last night located at 30 W Neal St Suite 100 in downtown Pleasanton. I had been there a few times and really enjoy it. The best sushi I’ve had by far is a place in Hawaii called Sansei. Nothing has been able to touch that, but here in California Senro is pretty good.

The service for us was pretty good. The hostess greeted us and we decided to sit at the bar as opposed to table seating. This usually makes things faster at sushi restaurants because the chef tends to cater to you more since you’re sitting right in front of him.

As always I had to do a few saki bombs with my friend. For those of you that don’t know it’s a shot of hot saki dropped in half a glass of Japanese beer. I always enjoy it when I’m out eating sushi.

The nice thing about Senro is they have quite a few unique sushi creations that aren’t too typical in most Japanese restaurants. I shared the Shelby roll with my friend, which is real crab and avocado wrapped with seaweed and rice, topped with tuna, caviar, and mango sauce. It was excellent as are many of the other rolls that I have tried.

To end the night, my friend and I decided we would try the Oyster Shooters. It was unusual. I’d never had one before. It’s a little soy sauce, Tabasco, a raw oyster, a raw Quails egg, caviar, and saki. It was quite good that we actually had two.

I had a good time and it was all reasonably priced. The placed filled up as time passed and there were a lot of families eating there. I would recommend it to someone interested in trying something different than his or her ordinary sushi bar.
