Myspace is attempting to jump further into the instant messaging world with its own IM client. Myspace currently allows instant messaging in its web interface, but this is an actual applications program similar to AIM which runs on the user’s computer. As Rafe Needleman of CNET says, while AIM tries to grab part of the social networking arena from MySpace, MySpace is looking to take over part of the IM market, which AIM dominates. TechCrunch has what appears to be a screenshot of AIM’s competitor to MySpace called AIM Pages. The interface looks a lot cleaner than MySpace and hopefully they will have the ability to have built in skins to change the look and feel. I think that’s one thing that MySpace lacks are a good ways to customize the page using skins. Sure there are other sites out there that help you but they are much more restricted compared to what the owner of the site could do. If the skins were efficient the user’s profile would be streamline and load without stalling. Read the rest of this entry »

According to CNET News.com, AOL plans to launch AIM Phoneline a free service for AIM users to communicate with any phone. This service is said to be different than typical voice over instant messaging in that it will offer a free phone number. Read the rest of this entry »

AOL may release a competitor to the popular MySpace social networking site. The rumors has been somewhat confirmed by associates working at AOL. It seems to be a pretty good market but AOL may be too late in the game to unseat MySpace. Read the rest of this entry »
