I didn’t get a chance to go to WWDC so I haven’t had any real life experience with the iPhone 3G.  I would assume that it is just like the iPhone I have now with faster internet access and basic GPS.  As far as the iPhone 2.0 software it’ll run on both models.  I haven’t used that either, but I’m looking forward to getting my hands on the new iPhone running the new software.

I think the app store is a great idea and I like that Apple restricts some access to the system in order to keep stability within the iPhone system.  I had a Palm Treo 650 that let you install whatever you want and the phone because slow and would restart on my face in the middle of a call.  I eventually restored it to default and I still had some issues with it.

As far as the price is concerned, you don’t really save any money.  It’s a pay now or pay later type deal.  Last year you paid up front and this year you pay over the contract life.  I think if you are like me I only really expect to keep the phone a year until the next model comes out next year.  In this case I break even if I get the 3G data and 200 text messages to make it equivalent to the existing model. I went over to my local AT&T store today to pick up a Jawbone 2.  I figured while I was there I would ask if they had any information on the new iPhone.  I had a good feeling that no one would know about it since Apple is so secretive about their products until they are launched.  They said they knew nothing, but they were running short of supply of the current model.  For those interested, the Jawbone seems to work pretty well and you can check out my full review here.

Since Apple has decided to release Safari for Windows, it got me thinking, what’s preventing me from using Safari as my default browser for web development. Up until now, I had been using Firefox with a few extensions for web development: Venkman, Firebug, and Web Developer. It got me thinking, Apple is releasing Safari so Windows users can develop for the iPhone. I’m thinking that’s the main reason, and it might be nice to pull some of the marketshare as well. On Friday, I decided I would be one of those people standing in line in front of the Apple Store. I didn’t camp out over night, but actually went around 6:30 and was out by 7. The people in line were friendly and seemed pretty excited about the product. I saw a lot of people talking on Blackberrys so it seemed like people were going to replace those. I was one of those people. I had just bought a Blackberry Pearl about a month ago and really this it is a great product. For the short time I used it, it was probably one of the best phones I’ve ever used. The line moved pretty fast and as always the Apple Store employees were very friendly. They brought demo units out in line so people could try the product while they wait. Also one employee was collecting trash from water bottles they had passed out earlier and made a joke saying you could throw your own phone in the bag as well. Read the rest of this entry »

Now that I have had an opportunity to see the iPhone at Macworld and read a few reviews, I thought I would voice my opinion on the Apple iPhone. I haven’t had the opportunity to use it, so I can’t really give an in depth review, but I’ll probably pick one up when they release in June and post an article on lightenment.com. So to tell you right off the bad my first impressions are good, otherwise I wouldn’t be willing to cancel my existing phone contract and pick up one of the new iPhones. Read the rest of this entry »

Like others ever since the wired Apple Mighty Mouse was released I was saying so where’s the wireless version. Today Apple has released the Bluetooth version of its Mighty Mouse. I seemed to like the original Mighty Mouse but was holding out for the wireless version. I will probably pick one of them up and try it out. Apple has released the MacBook, a replacement to its aging iBook line. For the most part I have been waiting for this upgrade for quite some time now. I am looking to replace a Powerbook G4 and this might fit in to what I need. The Apple MacBooks features include a 13.3-inch widescreen display, Intel Core Duo processors clocked at 1.83Ghz or 2.0 GHz, iSight Camera, Front Row and Apple Remote, and MagSafe Power Adapter. For those of you with iPods with the Dock Connection, there’s a cool little gadget worth looking into called the Pocket Dock Combo. What this little thing is is an adapter for your iPod with Dock connection to use any standard USB or Firewire cable. Previous generation Pocket Dock’s only allow a USB connection or a Firewire connection. This is a convenient for those of you that like to transfer data to and from multiple computers. Apple updated its website today to include its new 17-inch MacBook Pro. It has very similar specs as the 15-inch Mac Book Pro, but adds the top end 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo Processor as a standard option as well as Firewire 800 and an 8x Superdrive. Other features include 1GB of RAM expandable to 2GB, built-in iSight Camera, MagSafe Power Adapter, 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1600, Firewire 400, Bluetooth, and Airport Extreme all for the starting price of $2799.
