I’m not sure what I think about Yahoo rejecting Microsoft’s bid. I know Yahoo has been struggling and needs help, but I’m not sure Microsoft is the best suitor for that. I’ve been reading about other potential suitors, but all of them don’t really seem like a good fit. You have Google, but if that were to happen that would cause a huge monopoly has far as search is concerned. Most people I know use Google, then a smaller amount use Yahoo and an even smaller amount use MSN. If Google were to buy Yahoo I think everyone will end up using Google. I signed up to try out the pre-release candidate of Windows Vista. For the most part I my primary OS is Mac OS X. I only use Windows XP to test my web work out on different browsers on that platform. I enjoy participating in beta test whether it be a web application or a desktop application. I like to see what other programmers are developing and sometimes it even sparks ideas in my own work. After using Vista for a few days now, I still think Mac OS X will continue to be my platform of choice, but I am pretty impressed with the improvements of Vista over XP. Overall I don’t think one platform will ever completely replace the other even though Windows dominates the OS market. I think there can be multiple OS platforms that give people a choice. The New York Times had an article about AJAX web applications on the web to use in place of desktop applications. The article says computer hardware has reached a point where its very inexpensive to pick up a pretty good system. The software however ends up costing even more than the hardware. Google has bought Writely a web based word processor and also released a preview of its spreadsheet software. Read the rest of this entry »

Last week, there was an article on Computerworld stating that Microsoft is still working on its Atlas framework for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX). The Atlas framework is said to not displace the JavaScript technology with its own Microsoft technology. Read the rest of this entry »

CNET News.com posted an article last week about Microsoft’s attempt to replace the JPEG image format with its own Windows Media Photo. Microsoft says that the format will be supported in Windows Vista as well as Windows XP. Read the rest of this entry »

According to IT Wire, Microsoft has signed a deal with Amazon to replace Google’s search engine with Windows Live search on Amazon’s site. Amazon is one of the most visited sites on the web, double Microsoft’s and a quarter of Google’s. Read the rest of this entry »

There was a recent article on CNET News.com regarding monopoly issue against Microsoft, but this time by the search giant Google. With Internet Explorer 7 it puts the search on MSN and point more advertising dollars to that site due to its high volume of OS popularity. Google believes this is an unfair advantage in advertising.
