I’m not sure what I think about Yahoo rejecting Microsoft’s bid. I know Yahoo has been struggling and needs help, but I’m not sure Microsoft is the best suitor for that. I’ve been reading about other potential suitors, but all of them don’t really seem like a good fit. You have Google, but if that were to happen that would cause a huge monopoly has far as search is concerned. Most people I know use Google, then a smaller amount use Yahoo and an even smaller amount use MSN. If Google were to buy Yahoo I think everyone will end up using Google. The Vitamin has a post on 15 things you can do with the Yahoo! UI. I have to admit, Yahoo did a pretty good job of creating the library. A lot of the features are pretty slick and can help us developers when we are creating Web 2.0 applications. I used to be opposed to using others components and felt more comfortable using my own widgets that I created. I have learned to use my own as well as some of the other elements that others have created and it has helped increase my efficiency tremendously. Read the rest of this entry »

Demo.com has a pretty cool video demonstrating the next revision to Yahoo! Photos. There aren’t too many products out there that impress me right off the bat, but I have to say from watching this video, I’m very impressed with the improvements made in the new Beta. By utilizing the Web 2.0 concept in the latest version, Yahoo is able to utilize AJAX and create their online photo album program seem like a desktop application. Read the rest of this entry »

Yahoo has released their updated home page. I had seen screenshots of this before, but I think this is the first time it is available to the public. Overall I think it looks a lot better than the previous page. The look and feel is a lot lighter and that’s easier on the eyes, which is important for a page with that much content. I felt that the old page overburdened the reader with too much distraction. This new page appears to be a step in the right direction. Read the rest of this entry »

For those of you that don’t know, Yahoo has a set of open source utilities written in JavaScript. It includes some helpful tools for DOM scripting, DHTML and AJAX. Many of these tools are used in their applications and are available through their developer network. Read the rest of this entry »

Yahoo! has unveiled a new tech site called Yahoo! Tech. It’s pretty clean and innovative. It uses popular tagging in the top section to help find products you are looking for by category. The main section with the top features is a little annoying to me because it has a huge advertisement before it shows the content. At first glance I thought that it was just a big ad on the front of the page and I didn’t even notice the main content. Read the rest of this entry »
