AOL may release a competitor to the popular MySpace social networking site. The rumors has been somewhat confirmed by associates working at AOL. It seems to be a pretty good market but AOL may be too late in the game to unseat MySpace.

It seems to me that everyone is attempting to jump on the social networking bandwagon. It’s probably the hottest thing on the Internet right now so why not. Most likely it will take a big player in the industry like AOL to compete head to head with MySpace.

By taking the concept and creating a revolutionary idea from that concept will allow AOL to bring a competitor to the table. With Web 2.0 becoming more popular, the MySpace model could easily be improved to allow a much better user experience.

If MySpace were to use AJAX technologies for some of its site, it could essentially handle more concurrent users. If the technology is used correctly it could cut down on bandwidth intense processes leading to less errors on the site.

If the site were to be rewritten using XHTML/CSS coupled with the AJAX technologies the site could run a whole lot smoother. It would also appear more instantaneous to the user and things would seem to happen in more real-time fashion.

Since AOL is a partner with Google, AOL could utilize many of the technologies that Google uses in its products. AOL will have a huge hill to climb, but time will tell if they can create a product to dethrone MySpace.
