Viddler a new video service looking to take on video services like YouTube has launched today. The service allows you to store pretty large videos up to 500MB. Also there are timed tags and time comments which allow you to create bookmarks within a video to share at a certain point within a clip. Another nice feature is the ability to record through a webcam.
I was able to connect up my iSight on my iMac and everything worked pretty well. I have had the chance to take a look at the project through its alpha and beta phases. I’ve had a few conversations with Viddler’s founder Rob Sandie, and I think the project has come a long way. They have a great user interface, created by Andrew Smith and I think that will help the application out a lot. Something that’s easy to use always catches on faster that something that doesn’t.
While the competition will be tough, I think over time the project will find a niche and I look forward to seeing future revisions. Keep up the good work Viddler team.
