According to CNET News.com corporations are still slow adopters of Web 2.0 as compared to consumers. Most of the companies are using technologies in small scale projects. It used to be that consumers were behind corporations in the form of cutting edge technologies in the computer industry.

The consumer market is influencing decisions of business. Web application versions of desktop applications are getting better but I still feel need some work in order for a business to adopt it.

The thing with consumers using the product is there is hardly any risk or costs when trying out the new Web 2.0 applications. When a company has to adopt they usually have to give another application up and this could lose productivity in learning a new system and sometimes there are fees associated with corporate versions of Web 2.0 application that a consumer might not have to pay.

I think companies are being much more conscious in software decisions and not swaying one way or the other too quickly. Most are probably waiting to see how Web 2.0 pans out in order to see if another dot-com burst happens.

If Web 2.0 becomes as huge as everyone thinks it will be those early adopters will benefit much more than those who wait. I guess the question to be answered is are companies willing to take the risk or not?
