CNET News.com had an interesting article about Web 2.0 in enterprise. The corporate world has been slow to adopt technology such as blogs and AJAX, but it finally seeing the importance of using Web 2.0 in their businesses.

Much of the innovations that companies are using however are not available to the public. The action occurs on their corporate intranets.

Corporations are seeing a shift from desktop application to web applications and are starting to follow the trend. People will adapt the technology of Web 2.0 into fully functional applications that their business will utilize effectively.

Social networking is another popular topic in the Web 2.0 industry. How can this be applied to businesses? Like blogs, social networking puts a face on the product. The people them selves represent the product as opposed to a huge corporate identity. There is real interaction between real people and not a person and the corporation.

Overall, Web 2.0 is making it cheaper for companies. The Internet as a whole is more like one platform as long as the projects are compatible in each browser. A desktop application however needs to be compiled for each platform such as Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. While most people have a target audience of Windows only, by creating a web application it opens its user base to a wider audience.

There is still a lot of work that needs to be done and we are far from the future, but as Web 2.0 becomes more and more popular, the industry will take a good starting point and turn it into a great product.
