Ars Technica posted an article today regarding Web 2.0 funding and making it a successful business model. There is a huge discrepancy between investments and those that turn into Web 2.0 companies.

Technologies used include AJAX, RSS, SOA, CSS, XHTML, Atom, and rich Internet applications. These are the main concepts that differentiate a Web 2.0 application from the Internet applications of yesterday.

The main thing about the article is that there is money out there that people are willing to invest. It’s just a matter of taking that money and turning it into a successful company.

It all goes back to outside the box thinking. Right now everyone is trying to get into the Web 2.0 game. The problem is there are only a few out there that really differentiate themselves from what everyone else is doing. A lot of the time I look at some of the new web applications out there and say to myself this has already been done so much and there’s nothing that will make me switch from my existing platform.

It’s all easier said than done of course. If we could all be Google, then it really wouldn?t be Google. I still think there is a lot of potential out there, but people are going to have to make the extra effort to get there.
