Yahoo! has unveiled a new tech site called Yahoo! Tech. It’s pretty clean and innovative. It uses popular tagging in the top section to help find products you are looking for by category. The main section with the top features is a little annoying to me because it has a huge advertisement before it shows the content. At first glance I thought that it was just a big ad on the front of the page and I didn’t even notice the main content.
I like that the page allows you to save tech products and the ability to turn off and on search and recently viewed. Another nice feature is the ability to change the width of the page to accommodate smaller screens.
The interface is really pretty clean but I think it might have a little too much going on. It’s a tech site though so that may be acceptable for the audience. I think AJAX could have been helpful for the product tabs since most of the content is pretty small. The header is quite large and when I click the tabs it seems like the page didn’t change. They could have done this for search engine caching. I’m not sure.
What I like the most is that similar to CNET they put a face on their reviews. It’s more of a blog style editorial site. I think that gives it more credibility because it’s people talking to people and not a corporation talking to a person.
Overall it looks pretty good and I’ll add it to my bookmarks.
